I hardly think riding pillion teaches you control of a bike's throttle/braking/steering. If your friend has never actually piloted a bike, then the MSF course is a great thing to take. You can practice on a bike that you don't care about if you drop it. Since it is free, I don't see why she shouldn't take it. My class was $135 and I don't regret taking it one bit.
