New to the forum, new to biking and new to Miami

#1 Unread post by thelion »

Hi all,

After a couple of years of thinking about it, I've decided to take the plunge and do my motorcycle endorsement here in sunny South Florida.

I've recently moved to Miami; I'm originally from England (hence the avatar), but I'm married to a "Floridian".

The problems I forsee are:

1) the mother-in-law (she's not to keen on bikes)
2) I live in an apartment, so bike storage will be tough (I have a balcony; the elevator takes 2500lbs - apparently - it's that or in the in-laws garage)
3) the major concern - stupid drivers - I know they're everywhere but South Florida drivers seem to be a special breed, I rarely see a biker during rush hour here, but I used to see them in England all the time.

Well as I said I'm new, I'm hoping to be doing the instruction for the endorsement in the coming weeks.

stay off interstate 2 and you will have no problems. I have seen way to many old people who shouldnt be driving go across 4 lanes of traffic without looking cause they all of a sudden saw that supermarket they forgot they were going to. Heck I dont even live in Florida lol.

Welcome to the Forum and to Miami! 8)

You wont see alot commuters on motorcycles this time of year because of the heat and rain, it'll get a little better in the fall. As far as the drivers, yeah they are a special breed, you have to be alert and drive like they are out for you.

Good luck in the MSF class, which location did you sign up for? The one at the Homestead Race Track is really good, really patient instructors. As far as storage I'd go for the MIL's garage, she dosen't have to like them, she just needs to understand that it's none of her concern

Anyways.... :welcome:

Thanks for the welcome :)

I'm doing the class at the Miami-Dade college (signing up for it today), it's the closest.

I spoke too soon - I saw two bikers this morning :)

I passed the MSF course today; I had a lot of fun on it.

Now I've just got to decide on a bike!

Bad news on the storage front; mother-in-law has decided to deny me access to their garage now (perhaps she thought I was joking about the MSF course??!).
