As some have suggested, a big issue for beginner riders on touring bikes is the weight. Not only are they heavier in general due to the faring but they tend to be more top-heavy as well. This can make it difficult for beginner riders to handle/not drop the bike at slow speeds.

You might want to consider more of a smaller cruiser type bike for your first bike. There are plenty of aftermarket windscreens that can be added and, if you're not riding in the rain, would be fine for LD touring. It will be easier for you to ride and with the right side bags they can carry enough gear for one person.
