SURGING BMW R100R

#1 Unread post by Kiat »

Hi All,

I'm currently riding a 1992 BMW R100R and would like to seek some advice from fellow riders out there pertaining to a problem which I'm encountering.

I hardly ride my bike and the last time I took the bike out, it started to surge intermittently whilst cruising at about 90km/h to 120km/h. Also, there seems to be a fuel starvation problem at RPMs from 1500 - 2000rpm from the left carb.

I've thoroughly cleaned both the carbs, replaced all o-rings, emptied and refuelled fuel tank with fresh petrol, CO and timing checked but the problem still persists.

Could some fellow riders out there offer some technical advice on what I can further check on such symptoms?

Thank you very much.

Cheers,
Kiat

Hows the spark plugs? Also have you changed your oil lately? (though im sure thats not the reason).

also when you did the fuel did you remove the fuel in the fuel pump? What about the valves those might need adjusted? I dont know about the last 2 as im not a motorcycle mechanic just something I am more curious about as to if those could be a problem.

did you synchronize your carbs? Make sure to do that after you do a thorough cleaning. Also, check your plugs and valves.

If that isn't it, I would check ignition components (whatever kind of distributor or ignition box your bike has).

Check out this site: www.ibmwr.org

You may find an answer in the FAQs, etc.

Many of the different BMW specific sites have tech help. BMWs are unusual enough that it will be faster to go to a BMW club site and ask.

If I were you, I'd try http://bmwsporttouring.com/ They can either help you or direct you to an R bike site that will.
