I dont know, if they are so dead set against it, and you arnt able to park it at home, why not wait. you could save up a bit more cash for goodies on your bike!

Local storage seems like your best option.

That was my exact plan until classes started. Parking on campus is the worst I have ever seen. My original plan was to buy a pretty cheap bike, and go nuts on the safety gear, but I was a ble to work my "O Ring" off during the summer and I can already afford a better bike and some good gear.

I've been searching and have found some affordable storage units not to far from where I live. I'll check them out pretty soon, if they have an appropriate place where I can park my car for a few hours a day I'll by a bike and keep it there within 4-6 weeks :)

How far is it from your parent's house to campus? If nothing else, you might consider a regular, good old fashioned pedal powered bike... I was at Colorado State for a while, and that's all we use up there... I ended up getting so good for a while that I could maneuver around any pedestrian and over any concrete impediment and make it look easy! And if you do that, it'll just help you learn to do emergency stops and maneuvers!

It's about a 30-45 minute drive to campus. I go to the University of Central Florida, I'm not willing to ride a pedal bike across town in florida, combine the heat and the drivers thats a bigger risk than a motorcycle.

Motorcycles are seen all the time in my area, so they are kind of expected, plus they have some more size and a few other safety factors over a pedal bike.
