Is there a touring bike less than 1000cc's? Cost is no problem.

I used to ride a few decades ago and would like to stay within semi-newbie skill level, 600 lbs or less weight, speed is not of issue. I would like to stick to a new bike but can't find a touring bike less than 1000 cc's.

Preferably I'd like a touring bike around 750 more or less. Must be touring and if I want/need to trade up in 3 to 5 years, thats ok.

Or would a dressed up 750 cruiser be more practical.

many people consider the katana as a sport touring bike.

there's a 600 and 750 version.

Depends on what you consider a tourer...

Most of the Beemer range, VFR's from Honda, GPZ from Kawaski are all Tourers/Sports Tourers.

You cna tour on just about any bike - it's all a matter of perspective and personal preference.

I rode a Triumph Speedmaster Friday & Saturday (850) and I wasn't impressed at all with the power. If fuel injection does wonders then you'll be fine with under 1,000 but I'd go with at least an 1,100.

If I'm assuming you're afraid of too much power that is.

Hi Dan, I think that we are in similar situation and looking for the same bike. I have started riding again after a 31 year absence, and I have enjoyed it so much, that I plan to buy a bike to tour on when I return to the States (I am in the Philippines) in about a year.

I am not a believer in "bigger is better". Plus, I don't need the extra power and speed of the big bikes, and I don't want to wrestle the extra weight either. For myself, I am looking for a bike to tour on in the 650-900cc range.

As you have found out, there is not a "touring" bike in the smaller size, but as someone said, any bike can be a touring bike. Here are some bikes that I like so far (I plan to do some more research and test rides to narrow my final choice):

Kawasaki Concours, 1000cc

Kawasaki Vulcans 750 and 900

Suzuki C50T, 823?cc

Yamaha V Star Silverado, 649cc

Honda Shadow Spirit, 750cc

Honda Shadow Aero, 750cc

Check out the Suzuki 650 V-Strom. Properly outfitted it can be a comfy bike to tour on.
