End of the day a 28bhp 250cc bike is designed to haul about 400lbs to 500lbs at 85-90mph so a 50+bhp 500cc bike isnt going to have any problems at all.TxCZShooter wrote:Hello, I'm a newb! I have a question related to this topic, but more for the sport/standard. I have not ruled out the cruiser style, but want open options.
I see a lot of people recommend the Ninja 250/500, Suzuki GS500 or SV650/S. My purpose for getting a motorcycle is to commute to work. about 7 miles of city surface streets and 8 miles of 70mph interrstate.
Also, I'm a pretty big guy 5'11' 265lbs.
Given the info above would the 250 - 500cc bikes still be ideal? Or would I want to lean more towards the SV650/Ninja 650? Personally I like the naked look better.

When I went back to riding after 14 yrs. I bought a 454 vulcan. It is a great bike, but it did not have enough power for riding against the wind which we have a lot of here in West Tx. After 2 months I up graded to the 750 vulcan which does a lot better job than the smaller bike. I ride 50 miles a day total to work and back.
