After I put on my helmet (full-face) I try to hold my keys in my mouth in order to put on my gloves. I kept banging into that darned face shield

I do just the opposite. I rode many thousands of miles before buying a cage. I haven't ridden more than a couple thousand miles over the last 27 years. I still twist the throttle on the steering wheel, reach for the clutch and move my foot to shift, reach for the brake lever at the beginning of a stop. I still cross obstacles at a 90* angle, avoid foreign objects, loose sediments, bumps, and potholes on the road, and in general drive chicken. First-time passengers often comment on how comfortable riding with me is.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
