Oh no.... I live in LA... so I can not take freeways and still get there in a very short time. DO u know where the 10 Freeway ends... Thats where PCH starts...
Whether by choice or it just happens, there have been new riders who get their bikes before taking the course (usually timing) and a lot of them have gone practice riding just to get the feel for their bikes. Heck, there are even riders who have ridden for months or years before taking the course. The course will teach you slow speed skills and hopefully your instructors will give you lots of good tips throughout (things like "ready position", shoulder checking when coming to a stop, watching behind you when stopped, staying in gear when stopped, etc.) If you think you have managed to pick up any bad habits by that time, just be self aware and work on making any changes for the better. And after your course, it would be a good thing to practice what you've learned on your own bike.
A basic course is definitely recommended and there are always experienced rider courses too.
BTW, where I took the course (I assume the same for other places too) there are no mirrors...gets expensive to keep fixing or replacing them after a student drops the bike.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...
