A question regarding 'handicap' modified bikes...Shorts?
A question regarding 'handicap' modified bikes...Shorts?
I dont mean to call you out or anythin but you might know better than others. I took a ride today for the first time since the incident and quickly realized that turn signals are going to be a pain and got squirrely a couple times while trying to cancel them in whatever way I could(for those who just tuned in I'm missing about 5/8" off the tip of my left thumb)
I'm wondering how hard it would be to switch the turn signal switch to the right handlebar. It already looks as if theres a spacer or whatever on the right where they just covered the slot with a plate or what not. I know that once my thumb heals I'll have some use of it and everything, but that could be a long while and it still might be hard to hit the button etc.
Anyone got a handle on how to do this?
Kellan

Keep using it as it is. You will eventually get used to the hyper-sensitivity of the thumb and for such a small matter of an indicator switch it is a lot of effort to swap things around on your current bike and any thereafter.

Hey, not a problem.
You can patch in a new switch in the spare slot, assuming there is room underneath it for wiring and assuming your stock switch is relatively simple (unlike Honda's!). I've yet to get left side switches to the right. I may just patch in a whole new harness and housing on the right (sounds crazy, but probably the simplest solution).
Anyhow, you can use a ON-OFF-ON mini toggle. And if flipping it side to side is cumbersome, you can think about positioning so you're flipping the switch up or down. You can tap it into the existing wiring so you don't have to terminate any connections. Keep the original switch in the off position for the new one to work. You may run into some issues with running lights depending on your setup so don't let that take you by surprise.
Unfortunately I don't have anything more specific. I'm still in the process of this mod myself

yeah I was more looking for a semi temporary solution..different switch to use while my thumb is healing. I'm not supposed to be riding right now anyway but if it wasnt a huge issue I'd like to rig somethin up....I probably wont get that ambitious but it was a little shakey gettin back on the bike
pictures? umm...maybe when im more comfortable with everything...things are still pretty ugly though...i'll know tues if there needs to be any revisions/skin grafts done

maybe you could attach a switch that you use your index finger to move.. a simple 3 position switch from radio shack could work and you just tape, or glue it to the top of your clutch handle housing..ugly but it'll only be temporary

too bad most people wont know weather the hand signal is for a right turn or a left turn though.dr_bar wrote:Actually a good plan, a hand signal is way more noticable that the turn signal, and it's an eye catcher for those crazy cagers...sharpmagna wrote:Seriously, just throw out a hand signal...

True, they'd think you're always doing a left hand turn.
But I'd do hand signals anyways. It's not something people are used to but it may make them pause, if just for them wondeirng what the crap that guy is doing.
