Hello From the FNG

#1 Unread post by Damian »

I've been lurking for a few weeks and registered the other day when I decided I had a few choice words for a certain red motorcycle-riding member; I exercised a little restraint and never posted that message, lol.

I wasn't going to post anything until I got my bike because I didn't think I'd have anything interesting to say, but I had a question and posted it to the new riders forum. So I thought I'd introduce myself here while I was at it.

I've always been moderately interested in learning to ride, but it wasn't until about a month ago that I was bit with the bug and am now full-on obsessed. It's funny because the turning point was when I was casually looking through some classifieds, I saw a picture of a Victory Hammer like this one. I had never seen a bike like that; after picking my jaw up off the ground I realized I had to have one.

So after a little research from sites like this one, I found out the reality for new riders is buying a much smaller, cheaper bike to learn on and to take the new riders class. I'm now looking for a 500ish standard that can accommodate my 6'3" body and 275 lb. rump. I've read all the advice and feel confidant I'll find a good, safe bike that I can learn on. My passion for the Hammer has turned into an obsession to just get on anything safe with two wheels and start learning to ride!

For the past few weeks I've been reading everything I can and working on researching and budgeting for my safety gear, MSF, and bike. My wife is so tired of having me explain the differences between the various kinds of bikes. I think if I show her another Craigslist ad or explain the finer points of helmet selection she's going to leave me.

I just wanted to say thanks to the Moderators and members here who provide such great advice. This is a great community, keep up the great work!

Welcome from another newbie! I've been bitten by the bike bug as well.
Seems as if there is "no cure" We just have to "ride it out" :scooter:

Welcome aboard! Doing lots of research ahead of buying your first bike is a great idea - makes the transition to two wheels much easier. Enjoy the forums.

Cheers,

I also like the Victory bikes, but they come with a very hefty price tag.

I hope you enjoy the course and our community.

Lol. Dude, I don't remember what it was you said, I'm sure my reaction was more about me having a bad day.
