LADIES - Went solo yesterday

#1 Unread post by deedee1 »

Well I got brave enough to ride up and down the street solo yesterday. Hubby was working on the car and I wanted to ride lol. He said go for it I am out here if a need me. So I did. It was cool. I was a bit nervous at first but once I got going and doing the "drills" hubby has had me doing it was great.

I guess its weird that I would post and brag about that but I am so in to riding now I can't wait for the next time or the next thing to learn. Hubby said the next step is cornering since I can shift fairly well all the way to third and back down to first agian without to many problems. We'll see how the cornering goes.

I haven't been able to find the book Proficient Motorcycling yet but I did find one that is a good read its called Motorcycling excellence. It has helped me out. I am hoping to find the Proficient motorcycling book at a local bookstore if not I guess I will have to break down and order it.

Have a Great Day and Safe Riding

I know this is the Ladies Lounge, and I hope you will forgive me for posting here.

David Hough's books are excellent resources for both the new and experienced rider. I have his books 'More Proficient Motorcycling' and 'Street Strategies'

You should be able to order all three of his books from Chapters/Indigo or Amazon, and even your local bookstore should be able to special order any of them in for you, even if they don't stock it on the shelf.

Congrats on the solo ride  I was looking out the window at the awesome weather today, DH is at work, thinking, "I'd sure be nice if I could just get me gear on, walk out and get my bike out of the garage for a ride" :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Riding is addictive. Sounds like you are doing great!

The David Hough books are great. I have the one you are looking for and the ones Gadjet mentioned. They make for good reading especially in the winter when the bike is stored . If you can't find them, they are worth ordering.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

Congratulations! I know you're so proud of yourself! I can't wait to do that, but right now it's parking lot pimpin for me until I'm ready to hit the street. Good job and be careful.

Well Hubby figured if I was brave enough to take her out on my own i was brave enough for a busier street. He didn't even tell me we were going there . I was following him and was so scared at first. But just like everything else it was fine :D . He told me to try to keep up and as i had only shifted to third until then thats where i stayed. when i told him she wanted to shift again he said why didn't you? Your going to have to sometime lol. Guess its time to get her to fourth gear to keep up with the love of my life lol. I did do well shifting her and was surprised i didn't mess up my shifting as nervous as I was. It was all good though and I will get use to it and be keeping up with hubby in no time.

Have a good day and safe riding

Congrats

I am a newbie as well but have been commuting on my own for a couple weeks now. It seems like it's a bit easier for me to be out on my own. Maybe not easier but it seems like whenever I get scared I just have to buck up, there is nobody there for me to turn to but me. And I have to say it feels so great to be able to work through my fear and not give up and have a great ride!!! Talk about empowering!
Of course it's fun to go out with my BF as well but I love it when it's just me and my ride.
Have fun!!

Deedee, sounds like you are having a good time! When i went riding the first time, my husband was the nervous one. He was more relaxed when he saw that I was doing great.

Enjoy and ride safe.

I know this is the Ladies' section, but thought I would check to see what's up.

Congrats on your solo. I remember my wife's first solo. I was so proud, and maybe just as excited as she was, that she had taken that giant leap to the front seat. Now I can't keep her off her own bike when the weather is right. And, maybe I shouldn't say it here, but I no longer have to give her what-for for falling asleep and clunking the back of my helmet with hers. But now I have the extra worry of 'how she's doing' and if she sees the idiot coming up behind us, etc. Maybe I'm just a bit of a 'father rooster', but I can't help trying to be a bit protective. Maybe that will pass as she gets more time in the saddle. After all, she's only been riding solo for 4 years while I have been at it for a half century.

I'm sure your hubby feels the same as I do, but keep on with it. I'm sure you will do just fine. A bit of advice. If you are near enough to a dealer, sign up for a motorcycle safety course. My wife took it and just loved it. Before the course, she was petrified to drive my Harley, but after, I couldn't keep her off, so I had to buy her her own bike. And her grin is from ear to ear every time she straddles the machine. Besides, your insurance rate will go way down.
