In a city w/no helmet laws

I think of riding a bike with out a helmet, is like driving a car without a seatbelt. Both are dangerous, and there's no reason to do either of them. Why not put on a seatbelt? What's so inconvienent about it? Why not where a full face helmet? What's so inconvienent about it?

i always wear a helmet.

That said, comparing putting a seatbelt on, with putting a helmet on isnt the same thing.

For some people the experience of riding is drastically altered by wearing a helmet. I mean, strapping a belt around your torso while you sit is much less noticable then putting your head inside something.

So I can understand why some people arent into wearing helmets because it makes them uncomfrtable and takes away that free feeling you have with the wind blowing in your face and the sun beating down on your bald head....

just too much of a risk for me personally, not wearing a helmet.

Personally, I pay little attention to whether there are helmet laws or not, because I'll always wear a helmet. Usually a fullface, I'm most comfortable with those, though I have used a 3/4 too.

Having suffered a couple of concussions from my early cycling days, I was already aware of the utility of a helmet when I started riding motos. I always wore a helmet even though I was in NM at the time and was optional.

Fast forward a few years and I'll be moving back, where it will again be an option, but I think I'll always wear a lid. Just like when I'm on a bicycle without a helmet, or in a car without fastening my seatbelt, I feel more vulnerable, and a lot less comfortable, as if something is missing (and it is).

If you still want the feeling of the wind in your hair, do what I did: grow it long

Lived in Indiana for 5 years...another no-helmet-law state. Many days I felt like the only rider in the state who actually wore a helmet -- several times I got laughed at by other *cough*squid*cough* riders for wearing one.

That said, I've been known to go helmetless if I'm test-riding up the street and back, but I even feel uncomfortable with that. I likes my helmet.

yeah, that's why i use the 'condom with a stranger' analogy. i think it's really similar...
both safety devices take away from the pleasure a bit, but both reduce your mortality and/or health risks greatly.
