Tach not going past 4k plus dropped cyl!!

#1 Unread post by 1fstss »

well i just pulled the bike out for the season 4 days ago, yesterday a few budies and i decided to take a road trip. well on the way out there, my bike just dies, well we check the battery and sure as "poo poo", the batt is dry, so we do the quick fix to get me to our destination and poored water in each cell. well that took care of that, voltage jumped up and the bike started right up!! well we get to our destination (G's pizzeria in tawas MI Go there if you get the chance its worth it!!) we eat, then leave. we decided then to go out to the state park there to soak up the nice day, we cruise out there and head back, well on that way back, my bike just looses power, not battery power, but mechanical power, like it dropped a cylinder. but also when this happened my tack wont go over 4k but the bike physicaly does, also on the guages the only lights that light up are the nuetral light and the low oil light (when you start the bike it flashes while your starting it) my left blinker works, but the right doesnt, my headlights arent working either, i know its along shot, but could it be the coils?? thanks in advance!

Sounds like a bad short, check your wires around your coil and if that isn't it start with the main wiring harness and work your way through to the smaller wiring. Look in for pinched wires or rubbing/bare wires.

Yes, first thing to do for any electrical problem.

It could be your battery is too weak to power everything correctly, thus the sporadic lights working, tach malfunction, ect... assuming the tach is electronic, not mechanical.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
