You can also get a couple of cans of tennis balls, cut them in half with a knife and spraypaint half of them bright, safety-orange so you can train yourself to go left on one color and right on the other.
Don't forget to keep your eyes up. If you look at the cones, you'll hit them.

When I finished the MSF, they gave us booklets with suggested drills to practice in an empty parking lot. The booklet suggested plastic coke or water bottles with sand in them to weigh them down to use as cones. I'd stay away from metal cans because...well you know.
Spray painting them as suggested above is a good idea so you can see them better with your peripheral vision, instead of looking at them.

I'll go get my MSF book as what it says for distances...
*goes and looks*
I can't find it. I apologize.
But those cones are pretty sweet.

Go to Walmart and in the sporting goods section you'll find these dinner plate size FLAT FLEXIBLE cones, used for soccer practice I think. Come in packages of 3 for like $4. If you run over them it won't skip your bike sideways, like the Home Depot cones will.
We've also got a bag full old tennis balls sawed in half. THEY were FREE from a tennis club but we had to saw them ourselves, kind of a PITA.

I don't know how far apart MSF puts them, but for the Virginia DMV test, they're ten feet apart with a two foot offset.BlueBomber wrote: I'll go get my MSF book as what it says for distances...
