It sounds like this will be your first street bike, has either one of you had previous experience with street bikes?

If the both of you do have a good amount of experience on road going motorcycles... then slap me and call me Timmah.

Best advice I could give you is to resist the urge to immediately buy the first bike you go to look at. Shop around and check out a few bikes before making a decision. Bring a friend with you (preferably one with some motorcycle knowledge) when you check out the bike so have a better chance of seeing a problem.
