You should just come to a full stop at all stop signs, because I rolled a stop sign just yesterday and a police officer was on the other side of the street and he pulled me over.

he gave me a B.A.C test!!!! Of course I came out negative and he let me go with a warning.

Put the gear in the first always if you are coming to a stop or anything like that, it is pretty hard to start in second gear and you will most likely stall unless you rev it a ton.

Full stop at stops

#12 Unread post by snwflk303 »

At stop signs and right turns on red I always stop. It only took one "rolling stop" for me to get stopped and informed of the $180.00 ticket I could get.
I was lucky there was no place for the officer to pull me over that I gould get off the bike and he wanted me moving asap.

I'll never understand the "rolling stop". If you're slowing the bike down to a few mph, is it THAT hard just to come to a complete stop?

I've got a particular bug up my butt about this because I have to ride through several busy 4-way stops going to work and back. The rules for a 4-way stop are dependent on when each vehicle stops at the intersection. If nobody stops, how do you determine who has the right of way?

While I'm on the 4-way rant, I've determined that at least 50% of the drivers in my town don't have a clue on what the actual rules are at a 4-way stop. They appear stop and then just takeoff at random. It's almost a certainty that if one of these numbskulls tries to go when it's my turn, they will invariably flip me off in their ignorance (happened twice last week).

My two cents from an experienced rider: I think it's always a good idea to stop completely, put your feet down, and pause for a second while LOOKING BOTH WAYS before proceeding. Especially for newbies as this gives you a chance to relax and take things easy. Even if you're an expereinced rider, the approach will help keep you alive and avoid tickets.

I usually come to a complete stop when there are other cars coming through a 4way etc....drivers here typically dont seem tho think you are another vehicle, and usually ignore your right of way.

Now, if there is a 4way stop with no other traffic, I'll do a rolling stop, pretty much coming to a complete stop for a split second then getting immediately back on the throttle while looking for any other quickly moving cars that might run the sign.

I've actually gotten a lot better at taking the bike to a complete stop then moving again without putting my foot down.

Good advice. Ill always think about coming to a stop now. But since im a n00b13, When I am coming to a stop, I kind of get unbalanced, and I HAVE to come to a complete stop, put my feet down, look and start going again.
