What armor do you wear to work/school/shops?

#1 Unread post by intotherain »

Hello... Ive been motorcycling to school for the past few days and I wore full armor, jacket + boots + helmet +gloves. After a few days, this started to get extremely annoying, my fully armored leather jacket weighs about 10 pounds and all my other stuff is just a pain to carry into school and put in my locker, and I think I look like a fool doing it.. My leather jacket looks like an allout track jacket.. its neon blue/white and it has this big hump at the back.

Also, do you wear full stuff to shops? Because If i were to wear my jacket and helmet to a shop, such as home depot, I would have no where to put it except carry it, is this normal?

Its doable but I dont think its nesscary. If I didnt wear my leather jacket, but instead wore my Columbia winter jacket, my whole experience of commuting to school/libraries/stores would be so much better, but I dont wanna get rashed by the road if I fall.

I look more or less like this

so.. my question is, what do you wear to school/work/stores?

Thanks!

I was riding to work and my gear saved me some major injuries.

Wear it with pride

I carry my helmet with me and wear my jacket in places. I also have overpants which I take off and, if I'm going into a store will stuff into my helmet so its easier to carry.

At first I felt funny in the jacket, but now I don't care. If anyone sees you it may be an odd glance or two but for the most part, everyone's just doing their own thing. I wouldn't worry about looking odd - if anyone asks you can tell them what its for.

The people that stare are just jealous non-riders.

I wont leave my driveway without my textile jacket and full face helmet, regardless of where I am going. But I agree my riding pants are a bit excessive if just running errands around town, and are not really comfortable to walk around with. I plan on buying a pair of those Draggin Jeans with the kevlar in the knees and hips to wear on short trips, errands, or to ride to work. They look like normal jeans but would offer you some protection in case of a spill. The riding pants ill wear for the long trips with few stops.

so youd wear my neon blue race jacket to places? the problem is, im 6' 0 135 pounds... Im a tiny person, so my jacket looks radther odd on me.. But I think ill just carry it all around, its better than getting major road rash.

and! im 16.. it feels like if I was older, like 30s -50s I really wouldnt care what other people thought of me. And really, the only people that stare our middleschool- young college students. Otherewise no one really cares.

Dude... I'm 20 and at 6'2" 300 lbs always wear my jacket on me in the store. I'm always getting weird looks and such, but I just smile at the people staring and they usually just turn away. Although I have gotten a couple of smiles back from cute girls! Anyway, just wear your jacket in with you, unzipped, hold your helmet, and either stick your gloves in your helmet or in your jacket. (You could always put your helmet on your helmet lock, but I don't trust people all that much.)

Well if you are self-conscious about it you should have bought a jacket with less conspicuous colors.

Heres a tip, dont go through life worrying about what other people think about you. Ditching your safety gear because you're worried about what strangers think of you is pretty absurd.

When you go to a shop you can get a carriage and put your stuff in there.

What do 16 year olds buy at Home Depot?

well i wasnt really thinking about that when I was buying it... this jacket costed just 170 dollars, which was about twice less than the name brands cheapest jackets. I wished I had bought an all black or grey jacket.

well the downside of a black jacket is you arent as easily seen in traffic. I tried to go somewhere in the middle and bought a black/grey jacket with a white stripe going across the shoulders. It looks like a semi-normal jacket but has some visibility cause of the white/gray areas.

Dont sweat it man. Just keep wearing your gear, who cares what everyone else thinks.
