There's variation from state to state. In NJ you can take it from the state and it's free, or from a private company and it's about $225. Same course. Everyone wants to take it from the state naturally, and there are only two locations, so those classes are hard to get into. In Pennsylvania I think only the state gives it, there's lots of locations, and it's free.

Some states, like Pennsylvania, totally subsidize the cost of training. So it's FREE to residents. In some states it costs as much as $500. In MD it is $250 I think. Depends on how things are run in your state.

Here in Texas it's 180 ... but get this, because it's offered from a community college and in their course catalog, my company will actually pay for it as part of their continuing education program. Sweet!

fat city man! can't argue with that. you should buy some new gear and expense it to your company as "course materials."

lol, yah, but i can see why he would tell me only $100 in madison. I live like 60 miles from him.

so, in that case, Where?!? lol, i havent checked out each place that the MSF lists, but when i found one for $80 ten miles from my house i stopped looking.. If i cant get into it this spring, i'll look around some more.. i should prolly do that anyway to see if i can into one that starts earlier than April, cause lord knows im not gonna stop riding until the MSF course comes around

Don't get discourged if you have to wait! I decided to ride in August, couldn't register for MSF until Dec 1st and in that first hour the first 2 weeks where filled. I still have two and a half months to wait for my class, with a 7 month total wait, but it will be worth it to have the proper foundation and then I just have to worry about becoming one with the bike.

*reminds herself of this*

I buy myself a piece of gear each month, thats been helping me with the wait. It also gets my gear broken in before class.

Keep in mind that once you're licensed, most places you're basically licensed for life unless you screw your driving record or fail to renew. Of course there are other paths to your license but none better than the BRC. It's a rite of passage worth waiting for.

Hmmm? Why is it so hard to get enrolled in a BRC? Might this be a money-making opportunity?
