If the bike is registered in your name and you have 20 co-signers on the loan, it doesn't matter who pays for it, the name the bike is registered to is the legal owner and nobody else can take that bike away from the owner even if someone else pays for it, if nobody pays for it then the bike can be repo'ed, if they can find it, it can't be legally repo'ed if the bike is inside a building with the doors shut, the repo man cannot enter thru any building to repo ur bike, now if you store the bike outside it can be repo'ed. Thats a fact, its done this way all the time, the college kids know the system and its done this way all the time. Any motorcycle dealer in this area sees this being done all the time, at least once a week a cute college girl walks into the dealer in tears and tells the dealer this is what her boyfriend did and asks for help from the dealer so she isn't stuck with the payment for the bike, and there isn't nothing the dealer can do. I talked to tons of people that got their bike this way, and these are top of the line $9K crotch rockets. I wasn't being a jerk, I just stating the facts whats going on out there, I think its wrong to do, I would never do it this way, I dissapprove of it being done this way, I was just telling the facts.

In answer to your question ...."Pretty damn" Jeeeeze. Wait till you can afford a decent bike. Keep the car. I hate to say it but in this culture a bike is primarily a luxury. I think you've mulled this over enough in your head to know what you have to do.
Besides, you'd really hate only having the bike as transportation when you get all those consecutive days of rain.

Keep the car, wait till you can afford the bike.

I started riding over the summer, riding a 1988 Honda CBR-600 Hurricane. Not the best learning bike, but I couldn't find a running Ninja-250 or 500 in my price bracket ($1000) even after 2 months of looking. I've got about 5,000 miles behind me on it, but now I have major problems, blown fork seals ect, and parts are no longer made for it...it's really reached the end of it's serviceable life. I can't really ride it, and I don't want to put money into it to fix it.

I just switched jobs, and I'm a college student. When I went in to see if I could finance, I pretty much got laughed out the door at 2 dealerships.

I do have one asset, a 2006 Suzuki Aerio I bought to commute to my old job, which I was laid off from...not a cool car, but reliable transport with a good warranty.

Now though, I don't need to commute to work in a car, I live downtown in Portland Oregon, and work there as well. I want to sell my car, buy a bike, preferably new so I have a warranty, a cheap used car, and pocket the leftovers....but, this doesn't -seem- sensible, in fact, it's bad financial planning.

But, the alternative is no bike, and the withdrawl is rather unbearable.

So, am I insane for even considering that?
That bike should work well when you have about a foot of snow on the ground up there in Portland. :(

Portland rarely ever gets snow, and when they do its not a foot. It's like Seattle or Vancouver BC in temperatures. The gorge near Portland can get tons of snow, however.

The co-singator can take the bike owner to court, though, and he has to either pay up, or she can possess the bike as payment. I know. Been there, done that. :D

Ha i live in portland too.

Let me guess, you go to PSU?

Sell the car, buy the bike, and save up the rest for school and whatnot. Just take Tri-met when it rains, and it is starting to rain alot lately.

OR sell the car, buy a bike, and buy a car. You can get like pre 95 toyota pick ups for pretty cheap nowadays.

This is a belated response, but may be useful for others.

I can't see how the fork seals would be discontinued from Honda. Check another dealer. Honda is known to for have parts for even 1970's era bikes, etc. Fork seals are very common replacement items, and the popularity of the Hurricane (and the similarity of fork legs) tells me (ex-parts guy) that unless you've ran them dry long enough to damage other internals (which may not be available), it should be easy to resolve.

Alternate solution, buy aftermarket fork seals (Emgo or others are likely good sources) or buy a set of used forks from a wreck (could be hard to find and of course more expensive, but cheaper than buying a new bike) if you need more pieces.

I went to RonAyers Motorsports (a good source for japanese parts listings) and found the seal "kit" #. It let's me add them to the cart, etc.

Parts found with Part Number: 51490-KAZ-003
Description SEAL SET, FR. FORK
Price $18.24

Man, that's great news!! So, according to you, since I am the registered owner, the bank (or credit union, or finance company, etc.) can't take the bike, even if I stop paying for it? I am going to stop paying for my house, my car, my bike, and my boat. They are all registered to me, so there's nothing they can do about it. Hahahahahahhahahahaha.

Oh, and who are these girlfriends that have good enough credit to co-sign for a loan? You know, you have to have decent crecit to be a co-signer too. If they are lawyers and accountants why are they with these broke guys? Lot's of things fishy about this story.

Moto, I have serious doubts about you being a rider, and I'm darned sure you ain't a lawyer. I've only been around a few weeks, but long enough to realize you are a goofball. If I was guessing, I would say you are a 12 year old troll, trying to see what kind of reaction you can get from the adults. If that's true, good job!

Let's look at some of your other gems.

"the valves need checked and adjusted every 1000 miles and its not easy, an expert like me can do it and if you have no idea how to do it you might mess it up worse than without adjusting it."

"I would pick the Kawasaki Concours 14, but im a pro that could handle it, and I would ride it past its limits, but if ur inexperienced and ur planning on riding the speed limits I think it would be a......."

To a new rider:
"all or ur choices I would pick the SV650. but I would pick the Yamaha FZ6 instead, 10 times the power and easy to ride and handle, it comes stock with radial tires that stick to the road like glue"

"you have an intake leak, use a can of WD40 to find where the leak is, I use starting fluid instead, but starting fluid can be dangerous in the wrong hands, im ok cause im an expert"

"am an expert on many things and im a master using a cutting torch. I can use a small tip heating up only the broken stud and at the right time hit the O2 and I can cut that bolt out clean, all you n ..."

I've watched you reverse field on wether you like cruisers or sport bikes so many times I got dizzy and fell down. You put down Harley's badly, and in the next breath you wanted to buy one. Try posting your stuff in Humor. I bet it would get a better reception.
