Acceleration is of no issue, highway gearing is more of the issue. Maintaining 65 to70 mph without screams of death is. Same for reliability of the whole bike.

Looks is less of a issue as it won't leave him stranded, or fooled with a lying reseller even with all the normal checks done prior to buying used on poor/non maintenance. Somes used bikes can just take more abuse than others that tend to be touchy on various aspects.

So how do a Kawa Vulcan 500 LTD and Shadow VLX 600 compare on the above.

Mr. flw,, Sorry, I just lost it and flew off the handle when Mr BlueBomber and Mr qwerty hyjacked ur post and told lies about that POS M50, getting back to ur question if it was me I would pick the Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD over the Honda Shadow 600 cause the Honda, (really a good bike) is really s-l-o-w, I mean I would pick the Honda Rebel 250 over the 600 cause that are almost even matched in power - weight ratio. If you want a reliable bike that lasts forever the Honda wins, but if you want more speed and a lighter weight, faster bike the Kawasaki 500 wins.

VLX:

500ltd

btw i think the ltd shares the same engine is the ninja 500.

also...m50 has about the same as the volusia (42-45 rwhp stock)
which also puts it at about average for its cruiser weight class.
that vlx has about 30 rwhp stock...you should really try to sit on both so you know if you'll be comfortable.

Dude. It's operator error. You can't go fast when your a SQUID!!! Hey why don't you go on Intruder Alert anymore? Are you still scared of the girl on there who was going to wipe the floor with you??
The M50 is a great bike for those who have basic coordination and normal motor skills. You'll love the bike.

My Honda Civic has better numbers than that! I should know I own a POS M50!

I've had my Vulcan 500 for about 1 1/2 yrs (so far no problems). Reliability shouldn't be a problem. The engine is shared with the Ninja 500 and has been around since about 1990. Gas tank is 15L (4 gal US).

I find it easy to handle around town. On the highway I've cruised at 125kph (77mph) with throttle to spare. It tracks well and doesn't seem to get blown around. Vibration is minimal.

I've had several 2-4 hr rides and comfort is not a problem. However that's because the bike fits me perfect. I've sat on most cruisers in the 500-800 range and nothing else comes close.

I'm 5'/9" / 165 lbs. Since you are heavier you may want something bigger. Sit on a bunch of bikes and see what fits best.
I always follow the rules.
The only exception to the rule occurs when I make an exception to the rule not to make an exception to the rule and that only occurs under exceptional circumstances.

5'10" and 220 wont be an issue for the 500. DH at 5'9" 210 plus me with another 113lbs ride the 400 like bats out of hell.
