Tightening the chain & Checking the oil

#1 Unread post by zarakand »

I've never done this and looking through the manual it looks simple on a 95 Honda Shadow. However, I'm not the most mechanically inclined person or one to take chances with the bike. Is this something I should watch someone else do first, before jumping right into it? I'm confident enough to do simple stuff like oil changes and light bulb changes.

The other thing I noticed on the used Shadow we purchased is that there's no oil level check on the side...sadly I noticed my bike 05 Shadow doesn't have one either...Somehow I figured this was some sort of standard requirement on all bikes. Is there a specific dipstick I purchase from a bike shop then to check the oil level?

My apologies if the questions seem goofy, but I'm not that educated bout mechanical stuff!

There must be some method to check the oil on that bike, if someone here can't tell you, get a service manual, or call the dealer of the info. A manual will also tell how much slack your chain should have and how to adjust it.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Ah! Stupid thunderstorms today, once I get home from work then I can go and check. I'm sure mine also will have a dipstick just never had any occasion to open the oilcap yet.
