The only way you could see it up close would be if you got an invite to do so online...

That's a trust issue I'd hate to contemplate... (No offence meant.)
You mean nibblet in England could hook up with my computer via the internet???????
To be honest I wouldn't want to too, I know my computer is clean and virus free. I have no intention of doing direct connects to other peoples computers

Nibblet, I was just surprised. I'm actually going to take my computer into a shop to have them re-format it. They will know better what to do than I.
Unless I find the time to learn and try it myself. The library is an excellent resource for computer books. I learned a lot by using library books when I first got a computer.

I wouldn't want to put the responsibility of the computer onto a friend or acquaintance....except maybe one.....if something goes wrong, they'd feel bad.

A few years agao, I let someone convince me to take my computer home to upgrade from 98 to 98SE....My computer came back missing my address book, the office program, he had changed my fonts and screen.

Needless to say, I was not impressed. I let him know he had to replace my office suite and change my settings back to where I had them.

Now if someone is looking into my computer, I am standing right beside them to make sure they don't delete things or change things.

Recovery is not fun. Especially if you've been backup up your data onto CDs. I'm running on a 6 year old computer, so I finally got paranoid enough to invest in an external hard drive. It's great. I've got an image of my entire hard drive sitting on the external drive, ready to go when my computers hard drive finally bites the dust.

Now there's an idea blues...

Set up a partition on your drive and clone your current setup to it, then reformat the balance and you'll have an easier time regaining all of your data, pics etc... Then reformat the partition and keep an on-going back up on the reformatted partition...

Heck, you've got enough room on that drive to keep six or seven copies of your drive...

Well, fortunately Sev put an extra HD in my comp when I got that new one (thank you!) so I have all my pics (copies were current) and data files (perhaps not so current) on that spare drive. So hopefully any further recoveries required (ie. email/outlook stuff) will not be overly onerous.

Computers...love em AND hate em. :frusty:

  That looks like mine! I'm running an old Pentium III with a 30GB hard drive. The external drive I bought has 500GB of space on it. Not much use for it now, but I expect I'll need the space when my current machine bites the dust and I get a new one.

Mine is a pentium 4 with a 200GB Hard Drive. I suspect I will kill the computer before I ever fill it up.
