First bike...Good deal?

#1 Unread post by Jadien »

Hi all,

New member/1st post. I'm not sure this is the right forum, but the Newbie Intro Announcement said there are no stupid questions, so....

I'm looking at getting an '05 GS500F. I know it's a commonly reccomended starter-bike and I love that it has a look that will keep me riding!

It has 47XX miles, very clean, and is privately owned. The guy is offering two helmets (eBay here I come!) and a cover for $3,600.00.

Do you think it's a good deal? I want to stick within the '05 area, because I'm not too handy with a wrench and I want something fairly reliable.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

EDIT: A liitle info on me. I took/passed MSF BRC in January. I already got the Scorpion EXO-400 helmet, Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 jacket, JR Highside gloves, and JR Phoenix gloves. I'm looking at getting pants and boots in the near future. I'm 24, go to ASU, and love long walks on the beach. :)

Nice choice for a first bike. Blue book is listed at $3800 so that sounds like a decent deal.

I wouldn't use the helmets, and check the bike carefully for any damage.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I'm definately not using the helmets...

But your second point makes me ask:

Is there someone around the North Valley area that could come with a NEWB to look at the bike; perhaps test-ride? I'd be willing to buy lunch. :)

When I went to do the first-look on Saturday, I brought a friend of mine who just recently (1-2 months ago) got into riding. The problem is he doen't feel comfortable riding a "sportbike" and he's still rather new to the sport.
