I'm a leather type of person myself. It just looks/feels better to me personally. Though I do have a textile mesh jacket for those hot July/August rides. The downer of leather is it is expensive.

I don't know about armor. I don't use it myself.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

I'd recommend either full leather, or has been mentioned, textile with leather on the elbows and shoulders, maybe the back.

Make sure you get CE rated armor. Some jackets come with non-CE armor which is more like padding than armor which will not protect as well in a get-off.
