I can haul my 250cc rebel all over the planet with my 135 pound self, and I can ride around with my fiancee on the back (she doesn't ride often cause the "passenger" seat is very small and is rather uncomfy for longer than 20 minute rides). I know she weighs more than I do. But, point is, if a 250 cc bike can do it, then I find the point of all these "Is my 250+ cc bike big enough for [insert task here]. The answer is YES IT CAN! If it can't, then your bike has problems.

/dismount from soapbox.
lol that 250 cant handle me and my wife but we wont go their (yes she weighs more than I do as well). My bike is a 600 (well ok 650 with aftermarket items) and I feel its slow but im still learning (only put 2100ish miles on it since I bought the thing). Soon I will be learning to ride with my wife on the back but it hasnt been warm enough for her to want to try it plus I would need a babysitter for my 4 kids which is tough to do during school days.

If they ask when you're going to get a real bike offer to show them the "O Ring" end of a real bike and leave them on the line... not that I encourage speeding.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Heres a questions I have: Ok I'm 35 yr old 5'9 145lbs. I picked up a brand new 2004 Vulcan 800A 2 years ago. Now this Vulcan is the 800A not the Drifter but the one that looks like a Softtail. Anyways, the bike fits me well and the thing is though sometimes I feel the bike is too small. For instance, I had a few harley guys comment " thats a nice little bike" or I remember pulling along side a woman rider and she was on a HD Dyna I think and I felt soo small on my bike compared to her. :-( It seems as most every bke out there now a days is huge and most of the bikes I have tried out were too heavy or seemed too wide or big than I wanted or was comfortable with except a very small few. So I'm wondering id if I should consider steeping up to a bigger bike. I Love the 800 but Im wondering if taking it on a long haul or riding 2 people if this bike will do it comfortably and without looking like we are on too small of a bike. Any thoughs would be cool thanks :-)
Little bike? I parked my 800A next to my buddy's Softail Custom and noticed they are pretty darn close to the same length wheel to wheel. About the same height, and the gas tanks are about the same shape and size. Other than the obvious cc difference in engine displacement, there isnt alot of physical size difference that I noticed. I also felt pretty good when he revved his motor at a stop light, challenging me, and I dusted him off rather handily...

Hey, it's slightly smaller than my Volusia, and some Harley riders commented that my bike was a "nice little bike" too... Then I dusted them when they tried to show me what a "real" bike would do... Also, I'm 6'2" and twice your weight, and with me and a pillion, it was no problem for the bike to be big enough for the both of us, power, looks, and comfort wise...

The Vulcan 800 and the Volusia 800 are both 805cc and make about the same amount of power. Both have a wheelbase around 64 inches which would make them about the same size, certainly not enough difference to consider one smaller than the other by any stretch. The Volusia weighs around 30 or so pounds more though.

Like I said... Slightly smaller... not much of a difference at all... But the vulcan with him on it is going to perform better than the volusia with me on it, given our sizes and such... And yeah, my bike had another 40 lbs on the vulcan, with 5 less horsepower, same ccs, .8 inches wheelbase bigger... not much at all...

Did you hear that? That was the sound of my head hitting my keyboard, repeatedly.

If you are that insecure just go out, buy the Boss Hog and have done with it.

Ohio SUCKS!!!!

#40 Unread post by Geo71oh »

Well, The weather here in Ohio is just stupid! I mean just today I had to cut the grass that was at 430pm it is now 1030pm and we have about 2 inches of snow in the drive. :-( I haven't had the bike out in over 3 weeks and the next wek doesn't look any better. I guess if I ever want to ride the bike this year I will have to invest in some snow tires for it. I HATE OHIO!!!!!!!!!! IT"S MID APRIL! COMEON!! :( :frusty:
