Riding bike to work
I keep a pair of flat basic shoes at work to change into. Considering when I fell I scraped the right side of the front of my left foot and the inside of my left foot the boot is scraped halfway up my calf. So yes, you need the full protection. This was slow speed and my Oxter are no longer shiny and perfect.

i hope to ride as much as possible...the only thing im scared of is that there is a decently steep hill at a light and i just hope i don't get caught at it...no problem in the car with the hill and the clutch, but i've never taken a hill on a bike...i'll have to practice...but im usin boots one way or another...i just got my job offer actually today and they are pretty lax about the work attire so i may be able toget away with just wearing the boots all day...we'll see

It's easier on a bike because you can sit on the rear brake with your foot while start letting the clutch out and giving the bike a little gas.koji52 wrote:i hope to ride as much as possible...the only thing im scared of is that there is a decently steep hill at a light and i just hope i don't get caught at it...no problem in the car with the hill and the clutch, but i've never taken a hill on a bike...i'll have to practice...but im usin boots one way or another...i just got my job offer actually today and they are pretty lax about the work attire so i may be able toget away with just wearing the boots all day...we'll see
I do this when I go home. There's a light on a steep hill. I sit on the rear brake, then, when the light changes, rev the engine a bit, let the clutch out til I can feel that the bike is trying to move forward, then slowly let off the rear brake. Easy as pie.

Lumberton in Burlington county, next to Mount Holly. I work in Princeton. I used to live in Trenton in the 1990's, West Ward, Hillcrest neighborhood. (Got married, SWMBO decreed that She Would Not Be Living In Trenton... so I moved.)koji52 wrote:TRENTON NJ BABY! i leave one pair brown and one pair black dress shoes at work.
usually i wear jeans and roll up a pair of dress trousers(less wrinkles if you roll instead of fold) and carry them in my backpack to change into when i get in.
sometimes i leave a couple pairs of trousers rolled up at work if i know i'll have other things to carry in my backpack the following days.
i'm not sure yet, but i may get some overpants this spring to alleviate the trouser-change step.
when you ride to work, it's ALL about planning and giving yourself enough time.
