Yes, and he was LIVID!!! He wanted to go find him, but the idiot already drove off. It would have been ugly had he seen this happen!

Last week, some moron in a convertible was tailgating me, even though I was going a tad over the speed limit. The boyfriend, wanted me to pull over so he could follow the guy and yank him out of his car. I said forget it...maybe next time!

People really are lame sometimes!

That's actually pretty scary, NightNurse. I'm not sure what I would do if some random guy were to come up to me, lay his icky paws on me and be all aggressive. If I weren't on my bike it'd be one thing, but straddling a bike doesn't really leave you in a position to fight effectively. :? Pepper spray seems like a good idea. A quick blast and then scoot off back to the boy...

Are tasers legal? :tazer:

This makes me feel very lucky that I haven't had to deal with this.

Make sure you ride to the nearest police department to file a report too.

How crazy this must have been for you - I can't even imagine someone invading personal space like that. I think you did the best things possible for your situation. Also, acting crazier and/or more violent than someone like that can go a long way if you have no other helpful resources (something I learned while exploring vacant buildings in Detroit and encountering squatters! Or, my personal favorite... riding my bicycle through Detroit and having some guy barking at me while I wait for a traffic light change - I just barked back more aggressively - ah... good times.).

And you're right - people do suck sometimes!

Cheers,

Gotta be careful about that road-rage, as pissed off as you may be, and as well your ill-intentions are - theres no way of knowing what kind of person is behind that wheel. . .even if they are driving a "Nice Guy" car.

Plus, you dont want the BF pulled over for assault (which is what would have happened if he "chased" down the guy).

Wow... just, wow. I hate idiots. It is one reason I'm scared to park my bike in public.

I was walking out to my bike one day, and I see this guy looking at it, which is cool, but then he grabs one of the handle bars like he is going to hop on it. I started walking faster, and he then notices me (I'm already wearing my armored jacket and gloves at this point, so I guess it was safe to assume that it was my bike).

So I get up to him, and he is like, "Hey, is this your bike".
I say, "Uh, yeah.."
Him: "Can I take it for a ride?"
Me: "Are you f'ing serious?"
Him: "Come on man! Can I at least sit on it?"
Me: "Not if you like your teeth where they are." (I start making scary-face and slightly raise my beautiful kevlar-knuckled gloves, just enough so he notices the armor).
Him: "Oh.. ok then"

I just cant believe the gall of some people! Who goes up and starts to touch other people's vehicles? Do people sit in people's convertible cars when they are left open? I sure hope not!

Anyway, I can't believe that someone would be jerk enough to do that to you, NightNurse! That is much worse than my story! You can bet that if someone walked up to my girl and did that, they would be leaving in a pretty red van with blinking lights and a siren. I haven't been in a real fight in a long time, but that would sure as hell start one.

Co-worker and I did this yesterday; we were trying to figure out how this person locked their bike. Neither of us sat on it, or messed with the odometer, just peeked around it.

As for why theyd want to take a strangers bike for a ride - who the hell knows.

Noooo kidding. I've gotten the "Can I ride your bike?" from lots of people, too. I can understand people wanting to ride my bike, but I don't understand why people would think I'd let them! Sheesh.

There seem to be a few large Internet penises on this thread. <-- This comment started the flames - if you removed this line, this post is not all that hostile, but add it, and you have the start of a flame war (comment added by the Moderator Scan)

Would you BF really beat the crap out of someone up just for trying a crappy pickup like that? If so, I hope he would also like to spend time in jail on assualt charges.

Same for people who claim they'd beat the pulp out of someone for sitting on their bike. What's the point? To prove you're even more of a jerk and an idiot than the offender? If so, you would succeed.

You would MACE someone for touching your shoulder and being a doofus? I'd say that's a bit of an over-reaction. Just tell him he's an idiot and move on. Why make the siutation worse?

I think your actions were appropriate for the siutation. Don't let other people's actions ruin your day - give them a piece of your mind and move on.

If I saw someone messing with or sitting on my bike, I'd probably just remind them that it was my property and ask them to move on. Would I be happy about? No. But people do get curious about motorcylces sometimes. I'd be MUCH more disturbed if someone sat in my convertible. But I still wouldn't threaten them with physical harm or beat them up.

I've had people ask to sit on my bike before and I let them. Sorry people but it's just a motorcycle. It's not like someone to trying to molest your child. Some people need to just relax.

In fact, here's a picture of a Philipino tourist who asked if she could sit on my bike on the California coast. She got her picture taken on it and was very happy - and it cracked me up and I let her friends get their pictures taken on it too: (Of course this is differnet than someone sitting on your bike w/o asking.)
