If someone my girlfriend didn't know laid a hand on her in a parking lot, I'd throw him straight to the ground without thinking twice. He'd be more than welcome to get up and start something if he so wished and I would certainly engage.Flting Duck wrote:Would you BF really beat the "crumb" out of someone up just for trying a crappy pickup like that? Lots of people get assaulted and sexually assaulted every day. It's all well and good to say that some random person is probably not going to attempt that, but it's not going to happen to *my* girl when I'm around.
Someone lays a hand on her *in a parking lot*, I will immediately forcibly remove him from her. No questions, no talking.
I've never been in a fight. I'd never punch someone for touching my bike. But when it comes to random creeps walking up to and grabbing my girlfriend in parking lots? I'm not going to kick their "O Ring" unless he actually attempts to harm her, but he will certainly be removed from her with prejudice.

I agree with you about the "beating to a pulp" business or tracking someone down on the road and initiating road rage, however...Flting Duck wrote:You would MACE someone for touching your shoulder and being a doofus? if you're on a bike with the engine running, that's the same as being in a car. Is it okay to reach through a car window and place your hand on someone? NO!!! It's personal space, and the guy was invading her personal space to do who-knows-what. Just like a dog who runs after the mail man... you don't know what's going to come next, except that someone is definitely crossing a clear line in society. I'd mace him in a heartbeat. And the law would be on her side if she had done it.

Sheesh! It took you long enough! Thank you. I was afraid there would never be a voice of reason in this muscle-flexing, hot-air-blowing, testosterone-laden post.Flting Duck wrote:There seem to be a few large Internet penises on this thread.

Same for people who claim they'd beat the pulp out of someone for sitting on their bike. What's the point? To prove you're even more of a jerk and an idiot than the offender? If so, you would succeed.

I think your actions were appropriate for the siutation. Don't let other people's actions ruin your day - give them a piece of your mind and move on.
If I saw someone messing with or sitting on my bike, I'd probably just remind them that it was my property and ask them to move on. Would I be happy about? No. But people do get curious about motorcylces sometimes. I'd be MUCH more disturbed if someone sat in my convertible. But I still wouldn't threaten them with physical harm or beat them up.
Congratulations for being an evolved human being.

Oh get a grip. Hell yes I would mace someone, or not hesitate to hit them over this. The idiot grabbed my shoulder and my bike, was right in my face asking for a ride. Who knows what his next move was.

Once someone crosses the line and touches you and puts you in an uncomfortable situation like that, they deserve what they get. I'm not sure how many folks here have had the joy of someone much larger and stronger than you put you in a compromising situation, but it's not fun and things can get scary fast. Touching someone without permission is considered assault for a reason.
I wouldn't beat someone up for sitting on my bike but they'd definitely get an earful about it.

Touch my bike without my permission: I'm not going to be pleased, but you'll just get a stiff talkin' to.
Touch my body without my permission (especially in an aggressive manner): I'm going to assume you have the worst of intentions and make it perfectly clear that I don't appreciate your attention and will fight you every step of the way.
In a situation where I'm on my bike (and therefore can't get a good kick or punch off), I'd happily mace someone. The point would be to get that person away from me & my bike long enough that I can hit the throttle without having to worry about them grabbing me and holding on.

You certainly have the right to judge a situation, but you need to make sure that situation jibes with your response. If he didn't remove himself once you asked nicely - sure you have a right to get him off you, but the response has to be appropiate. Sitting back and letting your BF beat the snot out of someone wouldnt do much but expose both of you to assault charges - the guy getting hit wouldnt get jack since its NOT illegal in this country for an adult to touch another adults shoulder and be flirtatious (and no - were not talking about the office-space).
The guys actions may have been creepy (it sounds like he was drunk and lost some inhibition maybe), but that doesn't warrant the level of consequence people are talking about here. And its CERTAINLY not worth exposing yourself litigation over an attempt to show the other girl how much of a "man" you are.

Thats not harrassment though. Harrassment would be a continued pattern of abuse - this guy touched you ONCE, and removed his hand when asked - as well as divorced himself from the situation when you made it known his presence wasnt wanted. No ones excusing his behavior, but it got resolved as it should have - w/o resorting to violence, or there being the need for it.Sure it is. Harrassment...look it up.
