thanks. and ecstatic still doesn't really express. i was speechless for a while. in no way did i expect this. i had planned like i said to be waiting a while to get a bike. i'm a campus minister (so i get paid very little), we had our first child 10 months ago, and with that we made the choice to have my wife stay home to raise her. all of these choices i'm fine with, but they leave pretty much no money left over. to get this bike GIVEN to me - words can't express how greatful i am to this guy. and he has probably 30 years riding experience and has rebuilt past bikes he's owned. so i know that the bike i'm getting is in good shape.Skel3tor1 wrote:AWESOME!

and said his was like this one but silver. so it's a 650 with fairings and hardbags but i'm not sure about the back seat area. since he gave this to me i have been looking all over the i-net at different ones and have seen that there are different passenger seat options. i should have it in a week or two. i'll post a pic then.
btw, i'm going to leave the bike as is for a while, but i'm not much of a hard bags and fairing kind of guy. are those things easy to take off? will i be doing some damage that a future owner might curse about?

If a GL has a fairing on it you'd have to come up with all the stuff to mount the headlight back on the forks. The fairing was an option so you might be able to find all the parts in a salvage yard. The hard bags are designed to be removed and have handles and everything. You'll look more dignified riding the dresser anyway.

From your description of needing a license, it sounds like your semi-new. If so, beware of the weight. Just a slight incline at a stop or dead stop balance issue can become major in seconds. Removing the rear bags for a bit sounds like a very good idea. Then its just the weight and various handling issues.
If not, disregard and enjoy.
I wish they made a real silver wing now a days. It was a beautiful bike and not truck size, like the current gold wing.

that would be a correct assumption. and i thought that maybe taking the bags and fairing off would make the bike a little lighter and maybe easier to handle. if i'm wrong on that, then no biggie. i'll learn on it and move on in a season or two. but if that would be helpful then i'll pursue it.flw wrote:From your description of needing a license, it sounds like your semi-new. any ideas as to where to start to look for what i need to attach the headlight?
It may be a little more involved than just re-mounting the headlight.
Are the instruments mounted to the forks or in the fairing? If mounted in the fairing you will also have to figure how to re-mount them. From the pics you will also have to move the mirrors as they are fairing mounted on the GL.
The easiest way to do this would be to find parts from one of the CX series of Hondas. This was the same bike as the GL without the fairings and bags. If you look around you can probably find used stuff somewhere.
