1981 Yamaha Xs400 Oil Leak problem

I just got a 1981 Yamaha xs400 I dont know much about bikes so I wanted to start small the problem is that it has an oil leak I took off the plate where the gear shifter is and upon review found that the oil is coming from a crack in the engine i belive its looks like were the bolt for the place screws on does this mean i have to replace the whole engien or is there something else i can do to stop the oil from coming out any help would be great

You may be able to use j-b weld to to repair the crack. I did that on a kz400 that was broken where the kick start was going too far and had cracked the engine side cover. Just make sure that you get all the oil from where you are applying the j-b weld and let it dry propperly.

If you have a digital camera, or can borrow one, take a picture so we can see the crack.
