Helmet comfort

Well this is my second post since joining the list so I am looking for your "humble" opinion. I have been riding since Feb. with a HJC Cl Max. I have started to notice lately that I get a terrible burning pain down the left side of my neck after about an hour of riding. I have a r1100rt with an aftermarket windshield.
Before I go and buy another helmet does anyone have an idea of a comfortable helmet. I wore the helmet at the dealer for about half an hour, but I wasn't going 70mph. I like the full face and or flip up. My wife has the same helmet but then she is the passenger. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

i don't think anyone can really recomend what a comforable helmet for you would be. whats comfortable to me (Scorpion EXO-700), may be terrible for you. Where as an HJC may fit you well, but not me. your best bet is to go to your local shop and try on lots of them. the one that fits you best is the one to get.

Maybe you can adjust your windscreen forward at the top to deflect more air higher on your head, or over it. A neck pain sounds like a muscle strain problem more than a helmet hot spot.. You might just have to ride more to build those muscles up, and what a shame that would be, eh?

ya sounds like the windscreen might be causing wind to hit your helmet making your neck strain to hold your head straight. or just weak neck muslce. if your bored one day sit around the house with the helmet on see if you get the same neck pains.

We live in an area that only has a few shops with a limited selection. I have tried adjusting the windscreen and it doesn't seem to help. Some helmets claim to have less drag and be more comfortable but theres no wind in the dealers' store. Thanks

If you are leaning forward, and tilting your head up to look forward, try higher handlebars.

When I switched to my lower bars, my neck started hurting. I've been modifying my posture to deal with it, and now it is better.

there are several types of helmets. you should try looking into motorcycle shops and fit them.

if it still hurts, hold your head a bit straighter.
