Front disk sqeals again

#1 Unread post by flw »

I sprayed down my squealing single front disk brake and for that day and following day all was nice and quite. Now on day 3, its back. I didn't remove the pads so the cleaning was not complete.

I can spray it down again but at what point does this begin to be a waste of time or possible damage the front brake system? I'm careful to minimize the over spray.

What if I sprayed, while moving the bike, engaged the brake a few times. Then repeated this?

I hesitate in messing with the brakes since I'm not a mechanic. Thanks for any idea's.

You could shove some new pads in. Some pads just like to squeak.

My front pads would squeak because they were glazed; because they were still in quite good condition, I was told to go to a parking lot and do some good hard braking with my front brake after every 50-100 km I rode.

Eventually the squeal went away.

my 07 v-star does it, from what i'm told this is normal for that bike? Unless it has been awhile since you had the brakes done I would say it is normal

Water is wet.
The sky is blue.
Brakes squeal.

Did you properly apply anti-squeal compound when you had the calipers off?

Sounds about the best advice here to me, not only will it fix the squeal, but it should improve the perfomance of your brakes too, as well as give you plenty of emergency stop practice incase you ever need it

I applied disk brake cleaner from a spray can, I don't know if that is the same or not.

Why use this stuff? I mean its serves no real purpose. I compare it to using belt dressing on a belt. pointless cause it doesnt really work and just bandaids the true problem

How does eliminating the pad vibrating between the piston and the rotor "bandaid" the issue? It's called for in every vehicle I've changed brakes on and those don't squeal. They must be doing something right.
