i didnt think it needs rejetted. i know alot of people with cruisers that have swapped exhaust completely with no jetting done. your not really going to decrease or increase peformance on a cruiser with jetting so it doesnt matter. worste case you loose 5 horsepower by taking the baffles out, if you just want to hear then no big deal ride around like that you wont notice a power difference.
this is based on what ive seen/been told by other cruiser riders.

You can seriously upset fuel air mix by changing exhaust. Therefor the bike doesn't run properly. Therefor there will be noticible power loss which you will not regain unless you jet the carbs to provide the proper air-fuel mix. Swapping exhaust from one style to another that does not seriously affect the exhaust flow resistance is possible without requireing a re-jet otherwise, if you like your bike to perform well, expect to have to do some carb work.iwannadie wrote:i didnt think it needs rejetted. i know alot of people with cruisers that have swapped exhaust completely with no jetting done. your not really going to decrease or increase peformance on a cruiser with jetting so it doesnt matter. worste case you loose 5 horsepower by taking the baffles out, if you just want to hear then no big deal ride around like that you wont notice a power difference.

again how many people want performance out of a cruiser. ive been to a pretty reputable shop (pipecity.com) and they say you can pretty much always get way with changing pipes on a cruiser with out rejetting. a buddy put straights on a marauder 800 with no problems. i knew a guy that put straights on a harley no problems either etc. im sure you loose a little bit but if its a small amount of power lose no big deal to most people. usually(from what i herd) its so minor that noone will notice its gone so... alot of times the mufflers are there just to pass emission and can open some power up.old-n-slow wrote:You can seriously upset fuel air mix by changing exhaust. 5 horsepower isnt going to kill me and yes, you are correct im not so much worried about performance, just curious as to how it would sound i guess. if its too damn annoying i have the option of putting the baffles back in. i just wanted to make sure i wont damage anything if i try.

In my world most cruisers don't have much power to spare to start with. Therefore the loss of 5 hp is very significant. You probably won't cause any serious damage but you will create flat spots in the rev range. This affects smooth rideability. If your shop is telling you this will not happen I would find a new shop to deal with.
Not a slam. This is my opinion backed up with over 35 years of riding experience. But we all know about opinions.

I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.
im fully open to other opinions, ive not done anything like this with my own bike. ive only seen it done and can only go by that, and what others have told me ; )JCS wrote:In my world most cruisers don't have much power to spare to start with. if someone has a good enough reason other wise by all means i am willing to learn from them. but for this posters needs i think he just wants to hear the sound maybe roll around on the weekends with that added sound for a bit of fun while not worried about going over 45mph or doing anything real acceleration so its all a wash. most cases the insane loud exhaust will kill you on the whole idea fast enough it doesnt matter.

well some people dont know how to do that kind of work on a bike. great for you if youve done it before and know how its not a problem for you. do you expect someone that has zero knowledge of a motorcycle engine to be able to rejet it suddenly just because You know how?huh wrote:wtf is the big deal with not wanting to jet????? jeez 2 carbs on that 800. take me like 20 min. you dont even have to buy a kit. would cost like 10$
and yes the loud noise is gay. why do you wanna draw attention to yourself??? i perfer hushpower
also being loud or not is just personal preference of course. just because you like/dont like something doesnt mean its a universal rule everyone should follow. if that was the case all bikes would look/sound the same and things would be pretty dam boring having the exact same bike as everyone else.
