went on my first night ride Friday. about 60 miles round trip. wanted to go to a local club to see some live music and didn;t want to drive. first off, i promised my wife and myself i'd NEVER drink (not even 1) when on my bike. so taking the bike kept the night cheap. maybe a gallon+ of gas. a cheap cover charge and $2 for a club soda.
it was a fun ride. main roads all the way. We have a butt-load of wildlife and i had no desire to run into anything, so i went 55 the whole way there. and really paid a lot of attention to everything going on. we got a lot fo real big bugs here in VA so i had to clean off my visor real good before i headed home.
maybe the night rides will lead me to a life of sobriety.
I went on my first dusk(haven't done actual night yet) ride on Friday too and I loved the way the instrument panel looked I'll have to be careful not to look at it too much!
Yeah, my first night ride was a few weeks ago, riding through a dark rural highway with only my little headlight. It was exciting, exhilarating and had a romantic sense to it all. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat (even if it means I need to get lost again... hehe )
Actually, this last week was the first in several years that I didn't commute in the dark. So last night when I got into a late run from Saskatoon to Winnipeg, I found out I had burnt out my Tach light...
Damn, that's a pain to replace... Have to pull off the windshield

mines quite dim. I have just been to lazy to replace it assuming its just dim. I can see the speed just fine but its the miles riden that I cant see.
Anywho is there anything other than night riding??? I work 3rd shift so I ride to work and ride home the bulk of the year in darkness. Summer is nice I ride to work in the dark and ride home in pure daylight at 6:30 in the morning. With night riding, however, I feel awesome cause its not during the hot midday sun beating down on me. I think I have riden during the day maybe 50 times since june 25th of last year when I got my bike.
yeah it was great. definitely a different experience from day riding. especially on a nice warm night.
I feel very relaxed riding during the day, but I wasn;t quite so on that ride because i know just how much dang wildlife there is out there and they all seem to want to run out in the road at night. So I really had to focus even harder. I dont like running stuff over and heck if a deer runs out, that could finish me off. But I'm sure i will get much more used to it.

hehe yeah. learn to relax and you will be able to avoid them creatures with a ton more ease than when tense .
