That's a good question. Give them a call, they have a 1-800 number.

But, the MSF will provide you with a bike to use for the course if you don't have one.

The MSF is actually too far away for me to attend, I just checked. :(

The Oregon DMV seeems to suggest this one, though:

Team Oregon and the MSF class teach the same stuff, so that would be fine.

A 50cc scooter should be able to pull you around fine - keep in mind the 50ccs are usually like 30mph and under. Since you ride a bike you might also want to check out mopeds as well - they also come in around 50ccs but it would be more similar to riding a bike.

I took the MSF course on one of their bikes to prepare myself for riding a 150cc Vespa, and it was definitely worth it. A scooter is obviously a lot easier to ride than a motorcycle, but all of the stuff you learn about controlling the machine and staying alive are applicable to the scooter. Main diff is there's no shifting (obviously) on the automatic scooters, and you brake with both hands instead of right hand and right foot. You also want to take the MSF course on their vehicle in case you drop it. Why mess up your own ride while you're learning?

There are usually a good number of used scooters on Craigs List - I'm not sure where you are in OR but my friend in Portland had no probs finding a couple for good prices. Also, I don't know about OR, but in NY there's no such thing as a scooter license - you have to get a motorcylce license. You can take the DMV road test on a scooter, which is easy, or take the MSF course and they give you a waiver (I did both).

Currently, there's pretty much nothing on Craigslist. I'm in Eugene so feel free to take a look and let me know if you see anything that's actually any good. I've got a while to go, though. I'll probably be getting a motorcycle license(and therefore taking the MSF course) because it'd just be nice to have.

But first up: Getting my permit, and learning to drive a car. I've convinced my bud to teach me, in exchange for monies.
