this is NOT ninja 250. This is zxr-250. It is inline-4, not parallel twin like EX250. It has not been manufactured since 1999.

GS500 looks good. Here is ballpark price estimate.

The auction states it's a 2004. I get the feeling it's a standard EX250 that was heavily modded with the ZXR-250 as inspiration and even parts.

I have called 5 dealers and cannot get a straight answer as to whether or not this bike is CA legal. I've been told by 2 that it is, 2 that it is not and 1 that it can be made legal if it isn't, but doesn't know if it is or isn't in the first place.

Blargh! Anyone here know a good way to check?

Definitely something funky going on. Body looks like zxr. It says zxr-250 on the tail. "buy it now price" is waaay outside of reasonable range. too many mods for a starter bike. stay away.

non-CA bikes can be imported into CA if they are used. CA DMV defines "used" as:

1) At least 2 model-years old
2) At least 7500 miles on the clock

Yeah, it may or may not have been a 50-state legal bike, but at this point it doesn't matter. I will feel safer just buying one in CA.

I totally agree with buying within CA. Besides, you don't want to worry about reliability when you're first starting out. It's hard enough learning.
