Well, let's please allow me to start this thread off

I'm a Yamaha rider and own a classic (ie cheapo) 1982 Yamaha Seca 650R. OOO... 650R... take note of that R at the end there, it's a "R"acer model. Ok, ok, it's just a standard by todays R bikes, but back then, it was advertised as "Ride it hard all day long and put it away wet"... Ya, well, it was a different era then...

I've owned this bike is the longest of any of my bikes I've owed. That says something for the Yamaha fun factor it gives.

I've done some customizing to my bike performance wise. It now has 4 individual K&N Pod air filters, K&N Stage 3 Jet and Needle kit (umm, you didn't hear me say that as it's a drag racing kit, but no one knows). oh, and stainless steal braided brake lines too. Puts the torque and power up higher, not that the chassis can really handle riding fast...haha I've had it up to 170km/h and while it's fun going fast, the fun part is mostly lost going fast on a 25 year old rocket with crappy tires! Top speed is around 200km/h I've read and it can do 12 sec 1/4 miles (when new, now, I'm happy if it starts).


Here is my absolute favourite picture of my Seca, taken 2 years ago in March in Alberta. I'm about 200km away from Calgary in the great unknown.



If I would by another Yamaha I'd look at the FZ6 or FZ1. I really like the comfortable riding position and lack of fairings so I can see the engine (and it makes it easier to work on too).

The most creative response by the end of march gets a donation in their name to TMW and a handy dandy gold supporter bar...

That Seca brings back memories. . .I had an 82 650, the dude that owned it before me had it bored out to 750 equivalent. Fastest I've ever got that thing up to was about 220.

It had chronic starting problems, though. I replaced everything that could have possibly contributed to it, but 9 times out of 10, it would take forever to get it to turn over.

Nowadays I'm on a 05 Vstar 1100 midnight custom. It starts every time. I'm happy now.

I ride a 2005 FZ6. Well technically I don't ride it yet. I was injured pretty bad a month ago and I can't ride it for long periods of time. Anyways, I'm probably one of the youngest people on this forum.. I just turned 17 and have been riding since September. I like to do everything... mountain biking, hardcore computer gaming, driving fast cars, and now motorcycling.


I ride because it's fun. I know this sounds "squidish" but when I pass girls I know, I shift down a gear and rev particularly high to get their attention. They don't ever see my face anyways but it's still fun to do.

The bike is a 2005 FZ6 with 4,000 miles on it. I got it for $5,100 OTD without the rear tire. What a deal eh? It was just $4,600 MSRP without taxes.

We'll I'm already on it.

I know I shouldn't but I can't resist. I'll be able to REALLY ride in about 1 month. I could really ride because I feel fine but I know one little mistake could pop out my fusing bones so I'm just taking it easy.

tsk, tsk....I am staying away from riding yet because I know that if I had to make a sudden stop or emergency maneuver, I probably could not.

I know it is hard to be patient...I am going through the same thing...but do yourself a favour....give yourself a bit more time so you don't risk a relapse.

It has been seven weeks since my injury. My bike is sitting waiting for me in the garage. It will still be there when I am ready to ride. As will yours.
