When is a crash a crash?

If anyone is interested...the person in question here raced the Superbike race at Sears Point over the weekend, and managed not to crash, or hug the ground or any of that. His AMA number is 70.

On sunday he finished 15th...shoulda been 14th but they threw a blue flag so he had to let Yates by....yates was on the same lap not lapping...cost him a posisition, not very cool of the officials... Not bad though...everyone but Cory Call that finished in front of him has a full sponsorship and a Big Rig to haul thier bikes around, so he faired pretty well for a privateer with no backing.

We will see how he fairs at Miller Motorsport and Laguna.

Well imo in the first accident he crashed from the bike and in the second one he crashed with the bike

But he is a little to cocky... He could just say "In my life, i've been trough a couple of crashes, but nothing too serious" and he would still be a lot more lucky than most of the guys here...

When it gets to vehicles and motorcycles (mostly) cocky people eventualy die in stupid and, or selfish accidents

You'll find that most racers have at least a little bit of that. You have to take it to the edge and beyond sometimes and that sometimes doesn't quite fit into most people's idea of sanity.

If you hit the ground. Its a crash. I hit the ground, and/or crashed 20 times in the last 10 years racing.

And I don't ride like that on the street.

This begs the philosophical question - if a rider crashes, and nobody was there to witness it, did he or she REALLY crash?

Food for thought. Well, maybe a snack.

Going along the pavement vertically on top of the bike: No crash

Going along the pavement horizontally on top of, or beneath, or away from the bike: Equals Crash

Magically turning from a bike rider into a planeless pilot (ie flying through the air with no visible means of support): Equals Big Arsed Crash

Your buddy sounds like a friend of mine who use to race at the now defunct Westwood track, he had a habit of finishing race in the back of the track ambulance.

OH...OH...I can answer this one. Yes they really crash.

A crash is a crash. 'nuff said. Thinking that if your bike doesn't hit the ground it isn't a crash is just like saying that if my car hits a tree and doesn't flip over, that's not a crash.
