Tall beginner- need bike reccomendations

I've not had either of the mini-ninjas out but I had a 'pins and needles' issue first time out on the ER-5 which has a very similar riding position.

It was a touch distracting while I was riding. After that I was aware of what could happen and adjusted my riding position to suit - no more problem.

I've gotten as far as speaking with the MSF people down here, now it's a matter of finding a weekend off of work (I'm a retail store manager) in order to actually attend said event. Like I said, I'm just looking for a very general shove in the right directin in terms of bikes to be looking at and what to look FOR in a proper starter bike so that it won't be (as much) of a deathtrap as a certain minibike I rode...

I know for certain my knees should not come into contact with my chest, nor should my feet hit my butt. After that, I'm rather lost.

Thank you all for your help and input! It is very much appreciated. In the car and car-tuning world, most responses would not have been half as helpful as all of yours have been.

Occasionaly, if I sit too far forward, there can be a bit of a pinch where the seat meets the tank

Other than that, the Ninja 500-R is the most comfortable bike I have known. It is still my favorite bike, and I ride it more than my Vulcan.
