Have to lower my Sporty

My father recently helped me find my first bike . I bought a 2003 Anniversary Edition 883, but its not a Hugger.

I'm 5'4" and its way too tall for me. So I am looking to lower it to make it more comfortable. I am thinking of putting on the Progressive 412 Series 11" Shocks on it.

Anyone have any advice?

what is the seat height on it to start with? you might be able to get a different seat, I know harleys have about a bajillion aftermarket options out there so a lower seat should work.

but, why does it need to be lowerd? can you not get both feet to the ground at all? I know some people who are new to riding dont feel comfortable at first unless they get both feet flat on the ground with room to spare, but at 5'4" thats not gonna happen on anything for you I dont think. if you can get both toes to the ground I would look for a slightly shorter (or narrower) seat, but dont go messing with the suspension right away, get used to riding and balancing the bike first. the main reason for not lowering is it drasticly reduces your cornering clearance, and you dont want that, you are low enough as it is with a cruiser, lowering the frame more would cause you to scrape even at intersections and mild turns

White Bros makes a lowering kit for your bike(cheaper than shocks). They run $86 in bklack and $102 chrome. Go to any non-franshized (Ind)Harley shop that sells Custom Chrome. These usually don't give clearance problems, but check tire to fender room before you order.

I got myself a Hugger, it is a 1992 Sportster that is low to the ground. I imagine it would fit you much better. Look for a Hugger, if you can. Sportsters are a little high weighted too. The hugger helps for the balance some too.
