Should I buy this bike?

#1 Unread post by Saken »

Been looking around lately for EX500's and I found one thats relatively cheap (2200 for an '06) but it has some pretty heavy cosmetic damage.. looks like its been in a crash, should I get this? And if I do roughly how much would repairs cost

Thanks

Personally I would pass. There are lot's of bikes out there, another will come along.

Two things, it always costs more to fix a bike than you think it will, and I don't like the karma of riding someone else's crash.

Hmmm -

I wouldn't immediately say pass on it, especially if its JUST cosmetic damage. The bike has of course been in a crash - the fact that hes willing to put pictures up of the damage shows hes at least being upfront with the condition. I would ask for papers of any mechanical check-up.

Theres also a 1998 EX500 that looks in TIP TOP condition, for 400 less.

I would probably pass it up. Cosmetic damage points to structural damage. If you have a motorcycle mechanic as a friend (not a car mechanic), bring him with to check it out, and if he gives the ok, reconsider the bike.

Personally, I would run from the bike and never look back. All of the damage looks like its scrape damage, not just a simple drop at a stand still. Sliding a bike could cause serious problems like bending the frame, twisting the forks, expensive cosmetic damage, etc.

I'd say this one doesn't look like a keeper, it would probably end up costing you as much as a new one from a dealer.

Best of luck to you in your search. Ride safely.
