wrider I got post after I came back, couldn't have missed by 15 or 20 min.

Headed West on the Gs to Cotopaxi. Here it happened again, this bike after 30 or 40 miles wants to veer off onto gravel and dirt.

Leaving Cotopaxi I head North on Fremont County 12 (FC 12) It has been almost 20 years since Ive been over this. A lot of lower section is now paved, though not very well. The lower part of gravel is also very good and has Mag Chloride. The Upper part is rough in spots but do able on a street bike with good ground clearance.

Leaving Cotopaxi I manage to swallow a bug that sticks in my throat for the next hour till I can get some potable water from one of the two cars I see along the 28 mile trip. ( I usually carry a cooler but forgot to refreeze my ice pack) It gets cooler as I climb. Clouds hint at rain but never deliver. Very good views. Everything is so green this year. Wild Columbines are growing up here.

After several side trips (jeep roads) I arrive at Tallahassee Road (FC 2). I head East and this road is great, new smooth gravel. I can go at near hi way speeds.

Arriving at CO 9 I head South to High Park road then East to FC 69. Here I head South to the Red Canyon cutoff. FC Both roads have had recent work done to them, however this work appears to be more for drainage than to improve drive ability. They both have very large gravel (about 1-1/2") and several large rocks that were deposited on roadway when they cut drainage channels. FC 69 is normally ok for a street bike, but not with this. The cutoff never is. Both, however are a lot better than the Bank road.

I then go through the park and back to macadam. Is this Red Canyon Road,Shelf Road or Garden Park Road?? Its all the same road but name changes with different sections.

I ride to Florence for a burger before heading home. Put on around 120 miles, 80 or 90 on dirt/gravel.

these are from FC 12/ FC 11 or some of my side jaunts

Didn't get high temps predicted yesterday. already 93 today. after breakfast I am riding to Springs for the Tejon (RUB Ride) Bikefest thing. (still tool hot in Pueblo) Not sure how to go though. Too many options.

Thanks again to Centralozzy for telling me how to put urls for pics in post. I've had digital camera 3 years but first used last week. Nice to see pics with out having to develop. One pic in yesterdays post is sideways and I don't know how to set upright or if I can with image host. Sorry.

also found this picture of my Dad with Panhead in Sturgis in the late 80's or early 90's

Went up to the Springs. Went to the Tejon Bikefest, and got there with about 1-1/2 hours before it ended. I did miss most of the music. A lot more people here than last time I attended, (2005) but it is hot as Hell. Its Roasting.

There is a bike shop that has recently moved and is selling some left over inventory. I go in and they have Helmets. KBC,FULMER modulars for $67. Flat Black or Silver graphics. Odd sizes all XS and XL. Not a M or L in the bunch. They also have some gloves, the thin leather type 50% off price marked. Only one pair in my size.I try one on awesome fit. Just on a whim I try, well I try to try,on the other one also. No way can I get this on. Look inside L-M, R-XL. Rats Foiled again. Best not go to Cripple Creek today!!

Stop and talk with Barb and Jerry from the Motorcycle Museum here in Colorado Springs. Also a few vendors.

Talk to the crew from the Beemer shop. They had an HP2 on display. Broken front cowling, the say came from Germany that way. No replacement parts as there are only 6 bikes like this. This HP2 Super Moto is over 100 pounds lighter than the standard HP2. All six are in the Springs to compete in the Pike's Peak Hill Climb. (Factory Race bikes)

Also saw a place selling speakers to go in your helmet. Cheap ones for $18 (Quarter size) good ones $44 (Half Dollar size) I think either one is better than my Bel speakers, but the $44 one is really good.

A place selling earplugs. The kind they form to each ear, for $85. Paid $10 or $15 for mine in 2002.

A lot of RUBs riding Cookie Cutter Bikes. The all look alike. Some sport bikers also. 2/3 are on Green Ninjas. Two hacks Yamaha/Velorex and HD/Ural. A couple of old bikes in the show, but I see same bikes in every local show. Dragon Bike blowing flames and smoke.

Representation from two of the major clubs and several minor ones as well as the CMA. Large Police presence, but don't seem to be hassling anyone. KILO is broadcasting and there mobile is almost as loud as most bikes here.

Didn't get any pics. Left and went over to Mary and Don's. We sat in yard and watched animals. They have a heard of cats.

Also present are the coons. Mama and four kits, almost grown. Only problem was when one of the cats jumped one of the kits and took its food. Kit was twice the size of cat. The said the fox didn't come tonight. (otta be very--interesting)

Needed gas, but couldn't find any w/o ethanol. I put in right amount, hit reserve about 10 miles from home. Get good gas tomorrow. Ride back was great. Hills had spectacular Lunar illumination. Be even better this coming weekend, Full Moon.

IF MY ENTRY IS LESS THAN 2 HOURS OLD I MAY STILL BE EDITING

Well the HEAT that has been predicted finally got here. 101F Miserable. Well I'm doing inside chores today, keep as close to the AC as possible.

Here is a pic I took yesterday of Don, who I meet in Lusk,Wyo on the way to Sturgis in 79, on his 57 Rat Vespa, all original. Original just like when it left Italy. Same seat (at least whats left of it) Same paint (what hasn't rusted) And judging by the weather cracking, original tyres.

Keep in mind that Don owns ,many bikes. 15 Harleys, several Jawas and Puchs, Vespas, Lambrettas,a Guzzi a Yamaha and God knows what else, but this is his everyday ride.

Like me another collector of motorcycles many of which border on the Junk category.

Plays havoc with older motors (1975 or older for cars. 1978 or older for bikes and trucks.) designed to run on leaded fuel, most also have a higher compression ratio.

I've had bike (72 HD) foul plugs every 100-150 miles running ethanol in California. (Problem disappeared after first fill up in Nevada/ two different trips 6 years apart)

My old Ford got 21-24 mpg on pure gas, 7mpg on ethanol. Almost every vehicle I ve used it in runs rough and hesitates on acceleration. This doesn't seem to effect my Ford van or Nissan Pick up, both of which are EFI. It can also damage rubber parts in the motor. Newer vehicles have alcohol compatable parts in fuel system.

Rode downtown for breakfast. On way back I see Tim and his o'lady leaving. Their V-Star packed down and headed to Oregon. He's been telling me about this trip for a few months now.

Went to work on Sporty today. In the middle of this, radio says 80% chance of large hail. So I drop everything and put all bikes in the garage, and cover up the newer truck. Even put lawnmower under cover. We get 20 min. of rain NO HAIL. Talk to a friend who lives 8 miles away(Florence), a lot of small hail about 1/4" around. (no QUARTER SIZE)

Can't finish Sporty. I am putting on a shorter kickstand (so the wind won't blow it over) and need a dowel pin. Harley used two styles of stands. The one I took off bolts on. The one that I am putting on uses a common dowel pin. Hardware store opens at 0730.

Still have plenty to do (primary cover.pegs, brake pedal and carb) but nothing can be done w/o pin. Can't even work on carb because of way I have to prop up Stand-less bike. Besides primary gasket (the new one) is kinda warped, will let it sit under books overnight to flatten out.

Well can't find dowel pin. Hardware store only has them up to 3/8" local machine shop has them up to 1-1/2 inch, but in 1/8'" increments. I need a 9/16" I'll have to make one. This would be easy, if the motor on my lathe wasn't burnt up.

Well I go to the garage and open the door. Oh CHIT. The door comes off the track and just hangs there about a foot above the bike. Takes me about two hours to right the door.

I have radio on and, WHAT, Tornado has touched down in Woodland Park. Others spotted over Springs. Here we are under severe thunderstorm and tornado warning till about 2200, but again we only get rain. Plenty today. Main part of storm went over Parkdale.
