half-helmets

What kind of helmets does everyone have? I have a half-helmet right now, but it makes my head look huge, like Spaceballs' Lord Helmet ..........any recomedations for something smaller looking (half-style) but still DOT approved?

One thing I was told in the 70's when I bought my first Honda: You just spent a lot of money on a motorcycle so buy a good helmet.

Any half helmet really increases your chances of injury in any kind of bike accident. I sometimes wear a 3/4 helmet but more often wear a full face.

I knew a guy who went down with a half helmet. A woman pulled out in front of him and he was only going 20mph but flew over her car. Brain damage was so severe he ended up selling parts at the Harley store for 2 years til he could go back to his normal job. He and another guy painted show cars, race cars, bikes etc with super nice graphics by hand.

I also remember him telling me how sorry he was he wore that half helmet. Obviously he could have afforded any helmet but looking cool was more important.

The only time I've gone down on a bike which was the first one I had with that Bell helmet on I hit my head on the pavement really hard. Knocked the "poo poo" out of me and without that helmet I would have busted my skull open.

Excuse the long post but after numerous years around bikes you'll hear and/or see some nasty stuff. It's very possible a full or even 3/4 helmet may save your life where a half helmet wouldn't have. Just depends on how important your head is I guess.

If you want a half helmet that doesn't look huge, check out Daytona helmets.

They have more shell sizes than most companies.

That's a size medium on my head. DOT approved.

I shied away from half-helmets for a long time for two previous reasons; safety and huge head

I generally wear a full face HJC, but just got a Biker's Choice half helmet (no-can-find website for them). It was cheap, fit, and plain-old white.

I tend to be self-conscious about the looks, but forget when riding. I have to remember that now people can see my lips move when I talk/sing to myself or talk/yell at them (fairly typical, "No _you_ go first, grandma. I don't trust you.")

Frankly, I love the half helmet now, but I do have a windshield, so flying rocks are not a problem.

Harley stores seem to typically carry a good variety of the half helmets. Can you find one & go try on a bunch to see how they look (feel too)? Then you can compare if you look like a giant cue ball or what.

Oh yeah, my opinion, but that visor thing on those half helmets (like the one in your link) make your head look bigger too.

I Think tha the hal helmets is little safety ...

I use only regular helmets ... In my opinion , my health does not have a price ...

But i unterstand that half helmets is more confortable than regular helmets

Ask anyone you know who works in an emergency room who comes in more likely to survive, the bikers without helmets or the bikers with.

I wonder if I can find one of these around here:

My wife works in an emergency room. Unless the ER workers are riders themselves, they could care less if you wear a half, full, or no helmet. To them you are just another organ donor.
