My Ride - Your Ride

#33 Unread post by OhioHarleyGuy »

Hey,
I was torn between the Road Glide and adding the tour pack and the Electra Glide.

I guess we have the same "good" taste in colors!

I will be picking the new ride up when I get back from Sturgis. We are heading out there early on the 25th and leaving on the 1st. I have done the huge crowds before, but would rather not have to wait in line for beer or gasoline!

I could have really used the ABS today, but glad I avoided the 60 mph head-on with the cage.

I was dead in front of her 25 feet away. I should have bought the farm. Guess I am glad I am not a farmer!

Im sorry with the perdicition of god white, it was a mis print and is really white goLd pearl. oh well. New touring grips were listed at 1.5 in and one accessory at 1.66 in. I live in Japan and wont see any of this for about 2 monthes. I was spoiled when i worked in Baltimore about 60 miles from York and got new model when the ink was still wet. The Nightster has never made it here. Illegal rear lights here. so too with the combo rearlight/ turn signals on some new models. cant wait to see how they "fix" that for here.

the ABS equipment appers to be totally hiden near the head stock. Not taking up any space in a tour pack. Apppears to be front only.

ABS

#36 Unread post by OhioHarleyGuy »

Hey there,
I got some literature from the dealer. It says that the bikes have Independent ABS. Also at the Harley web page they have some videos describing the ABS. It says that under a quick braking event (I hate those) the rider would experience pulsing in the brake peddle and brake lever.

That kind of makes me believe that there is a seperate ABS control unit for the front and rear. They also show a control unit for the front mounted in the front on the VROD. Should probably be similar location for the baggers.

The dealer told me that the size of the control unit was substantially reduced.

I watched the videos on the web site too. it looked to me to that there was no ABS on the rear, front only. I dont know, as ive seen nothing technicaly yet. the front only is fine. if you lock the rear who cares. if you lock the front 95% your on the ground.

ABS

One of the videos that describes how it works talked about the pulsing in both the peddle and lever.

If it's only the front, that's fine with me but it sounded like it was a seperate unit for front and rear.

Saw some technical stuff today. Front and rear ABS. The touring unit is behind the right cover. All fuses move to the left and the ECM is on top of the battery. Same ABS control unit for front and rear. though i didnt read it carfully(in NIHONGO) if it was dual or single circuit. dont think it matters. In America You will get the Buell 1125 in October. i got to wait till 2009 model year. Sux! The nightster here will have a standard 1200R rear fender. Our person who attended the meeting said there was no mention of the XR1200.

Dave,
Thanks for the info. I plunked the $$ down for the Electra Glide Classic. Going with the ABS for sure.
