1999 VT 1100 Shadow Aero

This is one for the experts out there. As the bikes rpm get high the thing looses power then gets it back. Basically it goes a sec. on and a sec. off. This continues untill you drop the rpms. I dont think it is hitting the rev limiter, but im not for sure. Any one else run into this prob. If so WTF.

All gears, or just the highest gear?

What speed does it happen at?

All gears just at high rpms. Im almost thinking fuel pump or fuel filter. Or even vaccume lines, but I dont have a whole lot of time to spend on it. I am trying to figure out some ideas before I get to this bike. I still have about three more bikes to fix before I get there. All I know is I put in new sparkplugs and the air filter has about 20 mi on it, but the problem is still there. My boss loves to rush me and I hate it lol.

Check to see if your air filter is clean.
Then Check your fuel filter - probably inside the gas tank.
Then Check to make sure your fuel line isn't kinked.

If that doesn't solve the problem I'd pull apart the carbs and give them a good cleaning. And if that doesn't work I'd start testing the ignition coils, and ignition circuitry.

But it sounds like inconsistant fueling to me.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Im also trying to find the gear ratio for the trans on this bike if anyone knows it. I truly belive the rev limiter is kicking in, but I have to be able to prove it to my boss because he does not belive me :frusty:
