Using an electric pump to change oil.

#1 Unread post by buddhacide »

I am setting about changing my own oil for the first time. I have the service manual and had a go last night, but I could not budge the drainbolt with all my might. Rather than mess with it, because I know i'll end up stripping it, I am entertaining the idea of an oil changer, such as one here at Canadian Tire. Is there any reason I should not use one of these?

Did you turn the bolt the right way? Sometimes when you're upside down, the 'right' way is actually the other way.

Squirt a little penetrating lube on the bolt head, then try it again. I'm not much for fangled gadgets  Besides, if your plug had a magnet on it, you want to remove it so you can clean off any particles that may be stuck to it.

Yeah? Thats a good thought. Thanks.

I tried it both ways and cant budge it. I know me. Something will likely go terribly wrong, but if there is a good reason not to use one I'll figure out how to do it the old fashioned way.
