Strange fuel problem....

#1 Unread post by Ian522 »

Ive been having this bizarre problem with my bike.

For some reason the bike cuts out after riding 40-50 miles on a full tank. I pulled over and tried to get her started again, but nothing worked until I switched to reserve, and then it fired right up again and ran fine. Today was the second time it happened, the same exact thing happened last weekend.

I know im not running out of gas, I can still see it in the tank and when I went to top it off after the incident it only took about a gallon. Meaning there is still plenty of gas in there.

Im not really sure what to make of it...im thinking maybe a problem with the petcock? Carbs?

Clogged fuel filter. Take it out and clean it.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Have you checked to see if the vents in the fuel cap are clogged? Could be that they are clogged and after a while of riding you've got enough vacuum built up in the tank that it's not allowing fuel to flow anymore.

Ive drained the tank and carbs, gonna tank off the tank and petcock today and see if anything is clogged with any crud. Then I guess install a new fuel line and filter and hope it fixes it.
