Tire on Rim Question

How difficult is it to place tires on the rim? My dealer wants approx. $150.00 for installation PLUS 500 for the tires. Please Help!!!

The guy I go to will mount and balance the tire he sells you for free. He does charge for an hours labor if he has to take the wheels off the bike.

$500 for installation?

My local shops mostly want $30-$50 per tire if I bring in tires and wheels. A couple bucks more if I bring the bike in and they have to take the wheels off themselves.

I do it myself, otherwise my local shop charges me $30 for installation and balancing, $20 more if I bought my tire somewhere else.

500$ is wayyy to much for installation of a tire. what garage are you taking it to?

It's Honda of Norfolk, VA. I may have not been clear in my initial post. The tires are approx $500 with the installation being about 150.00 to 200. That amount I thought was way too much. Well the tires too but there is no getting around that.

At my shop we charge about 0.75 hours per wheel on the bike, and 0.5 hours per wheel off the bike.

At $100 an hour that works out to between $110 and $160 depending on how they came in.

If you buy the tire from us you'll get a 20% discount on the tire if you have it mounted at our shop as well. So on a $200 tire you're basically getting a free install.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

OK, with that info SEV, I can do the math. Thanks. I need to find a best friend who is also a certified bike tech. :laughing:
