Starting issue with 2007 gsxr 600

#1 Unread post by Gixxerman421 »

I just recently wrecked my new gsxr 600 and it was running fine. I had to buy a new tank and when I ran it down the road it quit on me and the rear tire locked up and slide on me. I was wandering if it was probably trash in the tank. And if so what was the best way of troubleshooting to find the location of the clog... Any other thoughts of why it might have stopped up on me would be appreciated.....

Sounds like your engine or transmission is locking up.
Will the bike start now?
When you had the accident did the bike lay on its side running?

If the engine simply shuts down due to zero fuel flow or no spark or whatever, the rear tire will not lock up. You will merely experience a total loss of power and some engine braking.

Sounds to me like the engine or transmission seized somehow. What happens when you try to start? Do you have sufficient oil in the bike? How new is it?

Forgot about the tank for a second.

You say the rear wheel locked up? What else was damaged in the initial crash?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I remember now that the engine cut out and slid like I said when I released the clutch going into fourth gear.... I wasn't giving it hell, just cruising for my first ride completely re-cosmetically built. I had givin it a little hell b4 adding the new gas tank, Is it possible that I cracked something in the accident and perhaps it held out for a bit? Is it possible that fourth gear might be the problem and if so can I fix it with out replacing to much of the transmission or engine? I'm stumped

I am not sure if the warranty is void or not. Think I can get a diagnosis for little or no cash? I really wanted to ride again this season, if there are any suggestions please. Not sure if the bike had been in 4th gear prior to my experience, but was wondering if 4th gear could be replaced independantly if indeed that is the problem. Thanx

What do you mean "turn over but doesn't crank?" What noise is it making when you hit the start button? What do you smell?

Are there any oil puddles near the bike?

Are you sure the fuel and vent and power lines are all hooked up correctly to the tank? A bad connection at say.. the fuel line would mean no starty.
giccerman wrote:It was all cosmetic.. All fairings were stripped along witht the headlight and tail subframe. I rode the bike 40 + miles b4 adding the new tank. could there have been something in the tank that could cause that kind of locking effect? What can I do?
I'm not sure where the lean angle kill switch is on the bike, but that might be worth checking out. Some of the modern sportbikes have a switch that'll kill the bike if it exceeds a certain amount of lean. A CBR won't run at all if its headlight is upside down.

The plug on this thread is oh so close to being pulled.

Turning over is cranking. I think you mean it does not fire.

But it's a 2007. Unless you bought it stolen, take it to a dealer and have them figure it out.

Common sense people..... :frusty: If you want an online diagnosis, you must use accurate terms to describe the problem. And if you don't know the correct terminology, there is no shame in that. But you have to realize that my crystal ball don't work that way. Take the bike to someone who can lay hands upon it if you can't even describe what the problem is to have any chance of getting it resolved.

Sorry about your crash, and sorry we can't help you, but c'mon, lets be realistic about these things, eh?
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
